Centerless
Centerless grinding is an ideal solution for parts with simpler cylindrical geometries, or a consistent outside diameter. The relatively simple setup combined with accelerated material removal make centerless grinding a very attractive option from an economic standpoint. Most centerless applications are ground by infeeding, where the part is inserted between the grinding and regualting wheel and ground until it is ejected from the same side it was inserted. For larger quantities, thrufeeding may be a more cost effective option. When thrufeeding, parts are again inserted between the regulating and grinding wheel, but are then propelled forward while grinding and exiting the opposite side of the machine. Although more setup intensive, part handling time is reduced making it more efficient across longer running jobs.

OD/ID Grinding
Grinding, in theory, is simple. But like the game of golf, just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy. Our highly skilled grind team continues to build on decades of experience having ground just about every feature or geometry imaginable. Most parts are ground between centers, but instances where centers aren’t permissible, PGI’s engineering team can design and produce customized work-holding fixtures in house. Our extensive lineup of grinding machines, supported by in-process gaging, are capable of meeting the most exacting standards possible.
