Unmatched Precision & Efficiency

Swiss turning is the gold standard for high-precision cylindrical components — and for good reason. The guide bushing design is fundamentally different from conventional CNC turning: rather than gripping the workpiece at a fixed point, the bushing supports the bar stock immediately adjacent to the cutting zone, virtually eliminating deflection regardless of part length or slenderness ratio. The result is consistent, repeatable precision that conventional lathes simply cannot achieve on complex, tight-tolerance parts.

At PGI, our Swiss turning department runs automatic bar feeders that keep our machines cutting around the clock. Live tooling and sub-spindle capabilities allow us to fully complete a part — turning, milling, drilling, threading, and back-side operations — in a single uninterrupted cycle. This isn’t just efficient; it eliminates the tolerance stack-up and handling risk that comes with multiple setups, delivering a more precise and consistent finished component.

Whether you need a production run of 250 pieces or a high volume order of 50,000, our Swiss department is built to scale without sacrificing the precision your application demands.

Value-Add Services & In-House Grinding

What truly sets PGI apart is our ability to complete your component entirely in-house. After Swiss turning, parts requiring ground surfaces or tight diameter tolerances can move directly to our precision grinding department — no shipping to an outside vendor, no added lead time, no tolerance risk from handling. Our centerless, OD, and ID grinding capabilities complement our Swiss turning department perfectly, making PGI a genuine one-stop solution for complex precision components.

Beyond grinding, PGI’s extensive network of trusted partners covers every remaining finishing requirement under one purchase order — including heat treating, plating, anodizing, and surface finishing. From raw bar stock to fully finished, inspected component, PGI manages the entire process so you don’t have to.

Why Choose PGI for Swiss Turning?

Decades of Swiss Turning Experience

Our Swiss department is staffed by machinists who have spent careers running guide-bushing lathes. They know how to hold a slender diameter to ±.0001″, how to dial in a stubborn material, and how to keep a part running cleanly through a long production cycle. That depth of experience shows up in the parts we ship.

ISO 9001:2015 Certified

PGI has operated under a certified quality management system since the 1990s. Every Swiss turning job is run to documented procedures with full traceability, from raw material certification through final inspection.

Operator-Attended Production

PGI does not run lights-out. Every Swiss machine on our floor has an operator attending it, performing in-process inspection on a regular cadence throughout the run. For the tolerances our customers demand, this is the only way to run the work.

In-House Precision Grinding

Most Swiss shops stop at the lathe. PGI is a grinding company first, which means components requiring ground diameters, tighter tolerances, or finer surface finishes never leave our facility. One PO, one lead time, one quality system — the entire part comes out our door.
